Shout Out Boxes Now available from the Kentucky Crime Prevention
Coalition
Band together…Protect yourself…Do the right thing… The
Youth Crime Watch of Kentucky is constantly striving to improve our schools environment and assist our YCW groups by providing
them with the tools necessary to aid in their success. One of the key components of the YCW is Reporting.
In order to create an effective method of this reporting system, these special key lock wall mounting metal mailboxes
will be available to those schools who participate with the Youth Crime Watch Program. These boxes will
be mounted within the building, affixed with the “Shout Out Box” label, advertised throughout the school and readily
available for students to begin their anonymous system of reporting. If you see something that you KNOW
is wrong, place your confidential report in this box.Help prevent bad things from happening in and around
your school.

It has been used successfully with the most reluctant learners and in areas with students with high dropout rates, as well as with inservices for the highest-level of educating.

YCW
Next Generation Board
Youth Crime Watch of America is accepting applications
for our Next Generation Board (“NGB”), formerly known as our Youth Advisory Board. We are looking
for exceptional leaders who are currently involved in YCW programs to serve one year terms starting in July 2010. This Board will be comprised
of five to nine youth (up to age 22) from across the YCW International system. The NGB represents the youth
perspective within the entire YCW network and will be charged with several strategic projects, including recommendations on
marketing and outreach to youth. Additionally, the Chair of the NGB will sit on the YCWA Board of Directors
and will have the opportunity to interact with community and business leaders as well as the YCWA President & CEO. The group will meet in person
two times per year in the United States and multiple times via teleconference. Full attendance is required.
Some travel subsidies are available but please note that a good part of the travel related costs will need to be borne
by the NGB member or the local YCW Affiliate and it is encouraged that applicants seek sponsorship for these amounts. Applications should be
sent via email to Leanne Brown at lbrown@ycwa.org with “NGB” in the subject line and should be received no later
than 5:00PM on April 2, 2010. The title of the document should be saved as follows in
Microsoft Word Document format: Applicant Name- 2010 NGB Application.doc. Please call

 | Most teenagers do not experience physical aggression
when they date. For some teens, however, abuse is a very real part of dating. Since 2004,
Congress has designated the first full week in February as National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week. This
year, the Justice Department worked with the Senate to extend the week to the entire month of February. To help bring greater awareness to the issue, NCJRS offers the Teen Dating Violence Special Feature, an online compilation of publications and resources on the topic. FOR

STAR SCHOOL... Turkey Foot Middle School Students Ask Us to “Buckle Up” Turkey Foot Middle School’s, Justice For All
Club members partnered with the Transportation Cabinet to install “Drive Smart, Buckle Up TMS” signs around the
school grounds. Student’s began the process of getting these signs by conducting a seat belt survey on
their campus. The club counted and recorded seat belt usage of all occupants in cars that entered and exited
the school grounds. “They took it upon themselves to press for the seat belt
signs,” said SRO Terry Chinn. “It meant a lot to them to see the state putting those signs
up.”
Way to go, Turkey Foot.
Keep up the Great Work!!
