It's time to mark your calendars and get ready for No Name-Calling Week (NNCW) 2010, which will take
place from January 25th-29th. During NNCW, educators and students across the nation will take part in the effort to
end name-calling and bullying in school. NNCW information, planning tips, lesson plans and promotional materials are
available now online at www.nonamecallingweek.org. This year we are excited to announce a new high school component
to NNCW. Although
originally designed for use in middle schools, NNCW has always been observed throughout schools of all grade levels.
Several years ago we partnered with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) to provide additional
materials for elementary schools. This year, in response to requests from high school educators, we have added resources
to be used in high schools. We developed these resources in partnership with Stories of Us, a film-based anti-bullying program,
which include a high school lesson plan, a GLSEN addendum to the existing Stories of Us Make-Your-Own-Film curriculum and
a new 9-12 grade category to the Creative Expression Contest, which focus on anti-LGBT name-calling and bullying in school.
The new lesson
plan, Lights, Camera, Action: Using Film to End Anti-LGBT Name-Calling, Bullying and Harassment, engages high school
students in exploring name-calling, bullying and harassment due to perceived or actual sexual orientation, gender expression and gender identity. All
planning tips, lessons, and Creative Expression Contest information
can be found at www.nonamecallingweek.org. To purchase NNCW buttons, posters and other merchandise,

STAR SCHOOL... Turkey Foot Middle School Students Ask Us to “Buckle Up” Turkey Foot Middle School’s, Justice For All
Club members partnered with the Transportation Cabinet to install “Drive Smart, Buckle Up TMS” signs around the
school grounds. Student’s began the process of getting these signs by conducting a seat belt survey on
their campus. The club counted and recorded seat belt usage of all occupants in cars that entered and exited
the school grounds. “They took it upon themselves to press for the seat belt
signs,” said SRO Terry Chinn. “It meant a lot to them to see the state putting those signs
up.”
Way to go, Turkey Foot.
Keep up the Great Work!!
